How do I trim an audio recording in Noted?

Short answer

On iPhone or iPad, tap ⋯ → Info → Trim, drag the Start and End handles to the part you want to keep and tap ✓. On a Mac, click ⋯ → ⓘ and click Trim next to Audio file size. Trimming is permanent once you leave the note.

We’re sure there have been many times when you began recording an audio note and forgot about it, only to be left with a 10-hour recording of a 30-minute meeting or seminar, which can be difficult to review and make a dent in your storage space.

To solve this issue, we introduced the Audio Trimming tool in our Version 3.2 update & above. This feature allows you to trim down your recordings to just the essential parts you need. However, please note that once you trim an audio file, the removed parts cannot be undone.

Trim Audio & Undo Trimming

iOS

  1. In the note, tap ⋯ → Info.
  2. Tap ✂️ Trim, next to Remove under File size.
  3. Drag the Start and End handles to the part you want to keep.
  4. Tap ✓.

Trim is part of Noted+.

To Undo Trimming
Open Trim again and tap the undo arrow at the top right. Remember, trimming is final once you exit the note and cannot be undone.

macOS

  1. Click ⋯ at the top right of the note, then the ⓘ tab.
  2. Click Trim next to ‘Audio file size’.

  1. Drag the handles at each end of the trim frame to select the part you want to keep.
  2. Click Trim.

To Undo Trimming
Fire up the Audio Trimming window again and click the Undo button, or use the shortcut Command(⌘)+Z. Like iOS, you can’t undo trimming after you’ve exited the note.
